John-Michael Albert

John-Michael Albert, an accountant at the University of New Hampshire and author of Two-Ply and Extra-sensitive, will be at RiverRun Bookstore on Tuesday, June 26th at 7:00 p.m. Two-Ply and Extra-sensitive is Albert’s sixth poetry chapbook. His poems span the globe from Texas to World War II France, to the Mideast, the South, and Poland, and the particulars of seasons in New England. His poetry is like little stories, and readers find themselves getting caught up in every scene. “His deft handling of many settings and themes, with a frequent, welcome leavening of humor, marks a mature poet who has read and written a lot. Brendan W. Cornwell

Brendan Cornwell, who works at Arcadia Publishing and is the Illustrator of Aesop in Goudy, will be at RiverRun Bookstore on Friday, June 29th at  7:00 p.m.   A resident of Rye, NH, Brendan is an accomplished artist and graduate of Montserrat College of Art. For the past five years, he has been involved in book production in Portsmouth, primarily focusing on photography based publications. Brendan’s creative expressions exist in various forms, including quilting, silhouetting, block-printing, and animation. Many people know of Æsop, the Greek slave who is often considered the master of the fable, but few people are aware of Frederic Goudy, the creator of this font. Goudy was a masterful designer, creating such a beautiful and striking font that the font itself is considered art. Frederic Goudy lived in the late nineteenth and early part of the twentieth century and was one of the most brilliant type designers. Local Photographer Nancy Horton Comes to RiverRun Bookstore on Wednesday, June 6, to discuss & sign her Portsmouth Photography Book. Photographer Nancy Horton has captured the beauty and the funky, gritty liveliness of today’s Portsmouth, NH. It is all here, from the salt piles by along the river to the Naval Shipyard. Daily life circulates historic Market Square; costumed re-enactors delight at Strawberry Banke; an impressive array of Georgian homes stand tall on residential streets. Kim Ponders will be in RiverRun Bookstore to read from and sign copies of “Last Blue Mile “on Wednesday, May 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. Air Force Reservist and former fighter pilot Ponders explores the future of a scandal-plagued Air Force Academy in her second novel, “The Last Blue Mile.” In the wake of an embarrassing rape scandal, General Susan Long is appointed to reform the academy. Her initiative, a “Culture of Transformation,” causes resentment among cadets and alumni and is opposed by the Commandant of Cadets, Brig. General John Waller, a former fighter pilot whose quick call sign is “Balls.” When a cheating ring is exposed, Waller wants to expel Cadet Paula Snowe, the ringleader but is overruled by Long, who argues that Snowe is “a perfect candidate” for transformation.
